“You’ll Have to Ask Prince”

The story goes that a journalist asked Eric Clapton what it’s like to be the best guitarist in the world. Clapton responded, “You’ll have to ask Prince.”

A piece of apocrypha certainly isn’t enough to honor the memory and music of Prince today. Even anecdotally, though, this story of reverence and respect encapsulates Prince’s importance to music and popular culture. In the coming week, Front Row Boston will publish a lengthier tribute to Prince and his relationship to music in our city. Until then, we’ll direct you to one of our parents for coverage of Prince’s untimely death.
